The Severne OverDrive R7 race sail focuses on reaching speed with increased twist and less back-hand pressure. A lighter weight means improved handling characteristics. The OverDrive can be run on either RDM masts or SDM masts.
Key differences between the Reflex and OverDrive are;
Sleeve width: 33% narrower than R7 for lower weight and less water retention.
7 battens: Lighter, with a softer feel.
Boom length: approx. 10cm shorter on most sizes for less back-hand pressure.
PowerChord Amplifies the Reflex function by increasing the unsupported roach on the lower leech. Re-distribution of surface area to allow shorter boom lengths. The reduction in boom length minimizes boom flex so sail profile remains more constant in gusts.
Higher Aspect Longer luff lengths and shorter booms equates to less back hand pressure, and the shorter boom length also makes it easier to clear for waterstarts.
Performance Construction Monofilm construction mimics the exact sail prototypes that were tested by our racers to maximise performance and minimise weight.
Seamless head panel
This high abrasion area is made from only 1 panel and does not carry any exposed seams, preventing any potential weak point in this area. As a result, seam creep and seam-related failure have been eliminated.
Direct drive tensioners
The DDT 4 and DDT 5 tensioners directly connect the tube batten to the leech of the sail. This new design eliminates the heavy section of tube that is needed for the standard batten tensioner and being smaller, has superior aerodynamics. It is used on all lower tension battens in the OVERDRIVE R6 and the REFLEX6.
SpiderFibre on the leech of the sail massively increases the perimeter strength and inhibits vertical stretch between the sail panels.
This unique SEVERNE system tensions the batten at a point along its length. It allows the leech area to twist and flex under load. The effect; maximum speed and control over a previously unobtainable wind range.
RDM cam conversion
The RDM Cam is an aftermarket option that converts the Turbo and OverDrive for use on a RDM mast. This option increases the access to the sail as many speed converts may already have a RDM mast. Speed sailors may prefer the extra level of mast reliability that the RDM mast gives you. (The TURBO and OverDrive is supplied with SDM cams in all sizes)
Position 1 This is the recommended setting and carries the adjustable outhaul fitting. It creates the perfect balance between a comfortable clew height and leech tension. This is the setting that Cyril, Steve and Bjoern will use for 99% of their PWA slalom races.
Position 2 This setting is lower and further in. It softens the feel of the sail and may be more comfortable for smaller, lighter riders looking for more control in higher winds.
The Dropped Clew allows for the reduction of boom and luff lengths; reducing the swing weight, increasing stability and promoting manoeuvrability.
Seamless foot construction
A single panel in the foot area with hidden load patches and zero exposed stitching eliminates seam abrasion and seam creep in this high load area. Maximum durability and minimum weight.
3&4 roller tack pulley
Roller tack pulleys are matched to the sails downhaul requirements and aligned for friction free downhauling and threading ease. Rig your sails with the Severne Hardware Division extensions for function and simplicity.
