FOILGLIDE

The FoilGlide is NOT just a freeride sail with ‘Foil’ written on it… Specifically designed for foiling with focus on the following points;

LIGHTWEIGHT
This is one of the most important characteristics. And we do lightweight sails better than anyone.

SOFT
Easier to pump. Doesn’t need the stiffness as rig load is reduced once up and flying.

STABLE
Need to reduce any draft movement as it affects the trim. Better to keep everything constant. Cams keep the sail profile stable and minimize any movement.

SHORT BOOMS
Better control. The shorter boom length allows you to easily adjust your stance.

After the success of our foil racing sail, the HyperGlide, we have created a user-friendly freeride version – the FoilGlide. Sharing a lot of technology and ideology these sails are the ultimate for foiling.

The high aspect design is more stable, more efficient and more controllable. Keeps the boom lengths short and easy to manage. Combined with a tighter leech, the leverage is increased which gets you up and foiling with a smaller sail in lighter winds.

With only 4 battens and lightweight construction, the physical weight of these sails is significantly less than other sails. For foiling this makes maintaining trim much easier, and just a lot more fun to use. Fewer battens, as well as less skin tension, makes the FoilGlide soft and easy to pump up onto the foil.

The FoilGlide is THE choice for freeride foiling.

I finally got a chance to try my New Foil Glide 6m today.

The forecast was a bit iffy so I chucked my Starboard foil 122 board and my freeride foil into the van just incase.

When I got to the beach the guys were all saying the wind had dropped. People were changing up to 7.8m + sails and going for 120 litre+ boards but seemed to be slogging around a lot of the time. At my weight 90+ Kg (especially after Christmas) I would have normally just gone home again but figured I’d give my Christmas present a try!

Straight out of the bag… the Foil Glide rigged so easily with the settings as listed. As expected, just like the TurboGT, the cams are a dawdle to engage with the RDM mast. When I picked the rig up I just couldn’t believe how light it was. I’m used to my Severne sails being really light but this makes even the Severne Pro sails seem heavy!!

As soon as I launched I was flying and in control and when the wind increased I added 2cm more outhaul and the sail felt perfectly balanced. At the start I had lots of bottom end “pump-able” power when required but it just felt very stable, feather light in the hands and tuneable when needed!

I was so in control I found myself trying more and more fully foiling gybes and the sail was so comfortable, neutral and light during the turns!

It looks like Ben and the Severne team have done it again!
